What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are gel-like substances that are injected just below the skin surface, directly into or adjacent to a line, wrinkle or fold. This smoothes out the treated area so in effect softens or in some cases eradicates lines.
Most dermal fillers are hyaluronic acid (HA) gels. This naturally occurring substance is present in all our body cells and attracts and holds water therefore improving the texture and plumpness of the skin.
Fillers come in different thicknesses and in general the thicker the product the more its capacity to fill and volumise.
HA fillers can also be used to outline and reshape the lips to a desired correction.
What are the side effects of dermal fillers?
As expected with any type of injection there may be some redness, mild swelling or bruising after the procedure. This will usually settle quickly in a few days.
The effects of HA filler will last 6-12 months.
